My first year as a FLIVVER has flown by. It has been a busy, challenging and very rewarding experience to start at a new school with new colleagues, fresh faces, and a different art room to adjust to. As the final week of the school year approaches I am very thankful for my initial year at Kingsford Middle School and I look forward to years to come! I have enjoyed getting to know my students and create art with them this year. Check out the post below for a little update on what projects we've done in the last few weeks of school. Click on thumbnail images to enlarge them. Life SkillsMy lovely afternoon small life skills class created portraits inspired by Bisa Butler. We also took some photos because it was our last day with all 5 students. This group has been a joy to see every afternoon and I'll miss them! Art 5The last of 6 weekly rotations for the 5th grade classes have been spent making Circle Loom Weavings showing our last element of art: TEXTURE! Art 6The projects below from the 6th grade artists are Notans. Notans are a great example of Positive and Negative Space in the art world. 6th Graders completed the Agamograph project. Agamographs combine two images into one. Students illustrated two contrasting drawings showing all 6 elements of art. After the drawings were complete, they were cut into strips and glued onto a separate folded paper in an alternating pattern. 6th Grade students also helped make art to fill the last display cases of the year to wish everyone a great summer! Art 7The final project in 7th grade was the 1 Point Perspective Room drawing. Art 8After reviewing some color theory, 8th grade students created the Analogous Radial Designs below using carbon paper to create a symmetrical design and tempera paint. The final large project for this class was the World Landmark Collage. Collages were created with transparencies, printed landmark images, sharpies, glue sticks, and magazines. PrimetimeAs an 8th grade primetime teacher, I got to experience my first 8th Grade Dinner Dance on May 27th and it was a blast! Shout out to the 8th grade advisors for organizing a great event and I already look forward to next year!
