After some vacation time with my family, I'm back to preparing for the upcoming school year. Today's mission was clearing out these two metal cabinets that surround the whiteboard. The cabinets are outdated and a bit of an eye sore, so I found areas in the room to reorganize what was stored in those cabinets. The plan is to remove them completely along with the wooden shelf above them to create more open space. I am anxious to see the result! Click on the images below to enlarge to see the slight change. Update 8/11 - The shelf has been removed, next up cabinets. You can already start to see how much space this change will give and the brightness it brings to the front of the room! Update 8/12 - I started to spruce up the front of the room because I can't do anything with tables until the floors are waxed. It's coming along! I also had a good strength work out and cleaned this clay cabinet so I can use it for accessible art supply storage for students. I love the before and after pictures! Update 8/13 - Today I did a lot of laminating (thanks to Mrs. Newman for sharing her supplies with me!) to update some cabinet and wall displays. My main task was updating my objectives that are displayed on my tall cabinets. The cabinet to the right of each grade has a clip to hold the current project example that each class is working on. Update 8/14 - Today I FINALLY added my Senior wall from my former students at North Central. I placed this collage right by the exterior door of the classroom so I can see it when I arrive and when I leave. I wanted to get this task done last year, but did not have time. I also updated my "Wall of Fame" which is tradition I carried over from NCA as well. Click on the images below to enlarge. You can read more about last year's FIRST Student of the Year in Art HERE and how I started the concept at NCA HERE. Update 8/15 - I worked outside of my art room today because they are working on my floors. My first task was streamlining the 3 display cases I use through the year. I removed the glass shelves because I often am just working around them, stored them, and then covered the background with black roll paper. Next up, I still need to cover that small gap at the bottom, and then cut a square piece to fill the base of the case where I stand to hang up the work. I think the black will really help the art to stand out nicely!
After that, I started adding a little color to my primetime room so it is not so plain. I used old grid enlargement projects I had stored in the art room. I need to finish the borders and find some quotes to jazz them up! Lastly, I peeked into my art room to see how the progress is, and I think it's almost time for waxing! I cannot wait to get in there and get the final details set. Click on the images below to enlarge.

Thank you to all of the students who helped me clean and organize the art room at the end of this school year! It felt good to have a head start on preparing the classroom for the fall. I have a few projects I want to work on this summer, but for now, it's time to enjoy a much deserved break for ALL!
